From Tradition to Truth: My Story
Today, many Christians who sincerely desire to follow God are unknowingly following customs and traditions that aren’t rooted in Scripture. There’s often a form of religion, but it’s not always a faith grounded fully in God’s Word.
I grew up in church my whole life. I was born into a Baptist family, dedicated as an infant, and faithfully attended every week—only missing if I was sick (which, thankfully, wasn’t often). I believed the church’s teaching was truth. I served in choir, nursery, youth ministry, summer camps, and women’s leadership. I loved God, believed I was saved, and thought I was a committed Christian. I read my Bible… well, kind of. You know, the daily devotionals, and when I had to prepare for the roles I served in. I was a good religious person.
But here’s the hard truth: I didn’t read the full Bible until I was 43.
When I finally did, everything changed. Everything. I realized I wasn’t truly saved. I had followed a false gospel, loved a false Jesus, and practiced customs that had no basis in Scripture. I was confused. Sometimes angry. Mostly humbled.
So I decided to study the Bible—really study it. I asked God to help me understand His Word. And He answered.Over the next two years, I experienced more spiritual growth than I had in the previous 43 years combined. God patiently revealed truth step by step, exposing where I had been misled by man-made doctrines. Letting go of long-held beliefs was difficult. I still grieve when I see well-meaning leaders teaching things not rooted in Scripture, leading others astray.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either.” — Matthew 23:13
Ultimately, I realized that each of us is responsible for our own response to God’s Word. We live in a time when Scripture is accessible to all. Through Jesus, we have direct access to God, and the Holy Spirit is faithful to guide us into truth. Wrong doctrine will never be an excuse.
This site exists to share what God continues to teach me through His Word. Before I open the Bible, I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me—and He does.
My prayer is that as you study alongside me, you will be encouraged to search the Scriptures for yourself, grow in discernment, and live according to God’s truth. I also share shorter reflections on Instagram, and you’re welcome to join me there.
